The question that actually decides it
Ask whether a customer would type what you sell into Google. A Belgaum resident whose air conditioner has stopped will search for AC repair. Someone who has never considered a helmet upgrade will not search for anything at all.
That difference is the whole decision. Google Search captures demand that already exists, which is why it produces leads within days. Meta creates demand among people who were not looking, which takes longer but reaches a far larger audience and usually costs less per person reached.
For most Belgaum service businesses, local trades, repair, coaching, healthcare, legal, the answer is Google first. For products, D2C, restaurants, events and anything visual, the answer is usually Meta.
What each costs in Belgaum specifically
Belgaum is considerably cheaper than the metros on both platforms, because far fewer advertisers are bidding on the same audiences. The same budget that stalls in Bengaluru will often work here.
The practical floor on either platform is around ₹30,000 a month of ad spend. Below that, both platforms struggle to gather enough conversion data to optimise properly.
- Google Search in Belgaum: workable from ₹30,000 a month for most local service categories.
- Meta Ads in Belgaum: workable from ₹30,000 for lead generation, more for e-commerce.
- Management on top, separately: ₹15,000 to ₹40,000 a month for a freelancer locally.
Why running both at once usually fails
This is the most common and most expensive mistake I see in local accounts. A business with ₹30,000 splits it across Google Search, Meta lead ads and a boosted post, giving each around ₹10,000.
Both platforms use machine learning that needs a minimum volume of conversions before it can optimise. At ₹10,000 a month neither campaign reaches that threshold, so both stay permanently in the learning phase, spending inefficiently the entire time.
The same ₹30,000 on one platform will usually clear that threshold, produce a clear answer within six weeks, and leave you knowing something you did not know before. Then you add the second platform with evidence rather than hope.
How fast each one shows results
Google Search can produce genuine enquiries in the first week, because you are appearing in front of people actively looking. That speed is its main advantage for a business that needs cash flow now.
Meta needs longer for a fair judgement. The first fortnight generally goes on fixing tracking and the next on finding a creative angle that holds.
- Google Search: first leads within 7 days, reliable read on cost per lead by week 3 to 4.
- Meta Ads: first conversions in week one, but a trustworthy read on profitability takes 6 to 8 weeks.
- Either platform: anyone quoting you a specific ROAS before seeing your account is guessing.
A sensible sequence for a Belgaum business
If you are starting from nothing, this order wastes the least money. If you would rather not sequence it alone, this is how I run Google Ads and Meta Ads for businesses here.
- Fix tracking first: GA4 and the platform pixel, before a single rupee of spend.
- Pick the one platform that matches whether demand already exists for what you sell.
- Run it at ₹30,000 or more a month for at least six weeks without changing the structure weekly.
- Judge it on cost per qualified lead, not clicks, impressions or reach.
- Only once that channel is profitable and documented, add the second platform.
